Can someone help me as I was not there and only watching the webcast why 88 was immobilized match 2 and match 3? Also appears that connectivity was lost to a partner in match 2. Why wasn’t the match replayed? Made for a disappointing end for to an otherwise fun watch for an alumni of the team.
Replays are for field faults that affect match outcome.
It’s rare that a field fault will individually impact a single team, especially across matches. It’s more likely there was an issue with the robot in question. That doesn’t lead to replays. A second robot also having issues in a different match doesn’t mean the field was at fault.
It’s not a great way to end. But, without an explanation of how the field was at fault for the disconnect there wouldn’t be a discussion of a replay.
So as a former driver I understand that. Was looking just for an explanation from someone who was there
I was Scorekeeper at North Shore. There was a field fault in one of the semifinals, and that match was replayed. Unfortunately, for the last two finals matches, the robot in question had something go wrong and just wasn’t able to connect. The FTAs delayed as long as they possibly could to give them time to fix it, but then had to make the call the the matches had to move forward.
It was a heartbreaking end. They were two fantastic alliances.
That is really unfortunate to hear… Looking back makes me wonder why they didn’t use their alliance time out if that was the issue as I believe all of the timeouts that were announced were field time outs and I think they still had their one timeout. Could be they used their timeout but it was announced as a field timeout. Again an alumni that was just wondering what happened from far away… Was a really interesting playoffs
As I was told, 88 had a broken can wire during F2 that was not located until after playoffs ended. They repaired it before they left the building. Our alliance did try to call for a timeout, but we had apparently missed the window.
The field staff and officials were amazing, and there were no hard feelings about how we were treated as far as I am aware. I won’t lie - it was disappointing to have things play out that way, but everybody was happy to have been able to face off against a tremendous #1 alliance, and even take it to 3 matches. Congratulations to 5813, 125, and 5563 on a hard-played, well-earned, and exciting win, and a huge thanks to our awesome alliance partners on 88 and 1474. We had a great time playing and cheering with you all.
Technical issues aside, that was everything a playoff should be.
