Need a place to stay in Atlanta?

Hey everyone! Long time no post…

Samm from 228 and I are going to be volunteering in Atlanta, and we’re planning on staying in the Hilton. If anyone needs a place to stay during Championships, let me know in a PM! Or email me at [email protected] (I check my email religiously).

It’s going to be first come first serve, so if all you have is a plane ticket to Atlanta and nowhere to sleep, jump on it!

Sam,
Talk to Jay Trzaskos from 229! I know he was looking for a room. I asked my advisor about space, but he’s being a bit of a slow response. I’d hate for Jay not to get to go for something as simple as missing a room!

(also, I might ask to sleep on your floor if I get sick of my parents XD)

Party at the Hilton!! weeeeeeeeee!!!

From another thread, here are the teams currently staying at the Hilton.

[H] Hilton 75, 237, 857, 1087, and Emily from 303

I’m in! (And my father is probably going as well; we’ll both be volunteering.)

FINALLY, after two years of 228 being one of the only FIRST teams who decided to stay at the Hilton, now everyone decides to go there. I guess we’re just trendy like that. lmao :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, don’t forget to purchase your week-long MARTA subway passes if you’re staying at the Hilton; the quick two block walk over to the Peachtree station beats the looooonnnnng walk to the GA Dome! They are only $10-$15, and if you are flying into Atlanta you need subway passes anyway to get from the airport into downtown Atlanta.

Oh boy… Now we’ll have 2 sets of “twins” at the Hilton.

First there was Sam and Samm, and now Ted & Art. lol

<me>Feels left out</me>

I want a twin. :frowning: LOL :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think FIRST can handle 2 of me though. lol Any thoughts? :yikes:

Good point about the MARTA passes Art. Thanks for the reminder. I’m sure we’ll look into getting an extended weekend pass for the team members going.

And if not, then I’ll be bringing it up on our forums & at our next meeting.

Whats the actual savings on a MARTA pass vs. just paying the fares?

Otherwise you have to pay purchase $1.75 for subway tokens for every single trip. (Which is quite a pain, as at rush hour there can be long lines at the token vending machines in the stations.) With the pass, you just show the MARTA people at the turnstiles your pass and you go right through. No waiting, no lines. It’s like the FastPass at Disney World.

Usually in past years, I’d use MARTA to get to and from the GA Dome, and then again in the evening once or twice, which would put me back about $6+ per day if I paid $1.75 for each trip. $13 for the five day pass beats $30 ($6 x 5 days) if you paid for each separate ride.

Here’s some more information:

For the past couple of years, MARTA has offered a “special” 4 or 5 day pass for FIRST visitors. For regular business travellers, they offer a weekly pass. IIRC, these two passes are the same exact price. So, just double-check and see what the price of the pass is this year, and make sure you’re actually getting a deal…

BEN

The 3, 4, or 5 day passes are the same price for everyone, there is not a special “deal” for FIRST (never has been), they just have a special web page for every event coming to town to make it easier for people to find.

That said, if you ride twice a day for 3 days you are saving money, and it just gets more economical every time you ride above that. Also, since last year MARTA has done away with the tokens and gone to RFID embedded tickets, so you can now buy a multi day pass from the vending machines in any station, no having to go to the store in the airport or try to order them in advance. The vending machines take cash or plastic.
