It looks like the gearbox that goes with the FP motors did not come with a plastic coupler this year. (or did I miss something?) If so, I need to make something for our team using my tools at home, and I won’t be able to get access to the gearbox itself until Tuesday.
Can anyone with access to a gearbox whip out some calipers and give me the ID and OD of the output coupler of the gearbox?
Thanks,
-Eric.
HobbyMasters sells them:
I am almost sure this is it: http://www.hobbymasters.com/powerwheelsdriverhub74460-2249.aspx
Sorry, I don’t have one available to measure.
Thanks for the link, I sent Hobbymasters a message with my follow up question which is, will these parts fit the gearboxes this year? The output pinion has 16 spokes while these hubs appear to be made for 10 spokes.
A round slug can be used in pretty short order. You can bore/broach it for whatever you are mating. I did a white paper over the summer that covers that plus a number other uses for the FP gearboxes. Skip to the end of it for what you are looking for. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2284
Thanks Mark,
Great resource - thanks for sharing. Our team is mostly rookies, and I am passing on this whitepaper to them. The coupler made from a slug and a screw is exactly what I had in mind.
Now, If I only had those dimensions, I could machine it and bring it to the team tomorrow (they don’t have a lathe at school yet.)
Quick measurement on an old one gives me 1.483-1.586". I used a 1.5" diameter slug last year, no lathe required. Good luck!
