The NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization) 5th Annual Meeting will be held in Atlanta in the World Congress Center on Friday, April 17, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, room C208.
All adult and college-age mentors who help teams with the non-technical aspects of the team (fundraising, mentor and student recruitment and retention, teambuilding, team organization, food, travel planning, paperwork, etc.) are invited to attend. Feel free to come and go during the meeting as your needs and responsibilities dictate. Come meet your peers, discuss issues that are of interest to you, and let us know how NEMO can help!
I’d highly recommend the meeting to parents who are interested in learning more about how to help their student’s team. Often they are doing NEM tasks & don’t realize NEMO can be a huge resource. So…please encourage your team chaperones & parent fans to attend.
I’m going to be in attendance and helping out if Kathie needs anything.
The meetings are awesome. All kinds of questions are asked and answered regarding the non-engineering aspects of running a team such as how to better organize the financial needs, budgets, travel, fundraising, team building ends of things. It’s a great opportunity to learn, share experiences, and to meet folks.
(Andrew, I don’t know about the recording of the meeting for those who can’t attend. That sounds like a good question for Kathie. :))
Kathie,
Its too bad its on Friday during matches.
I handle most of the NEMO issues for our team, but also coach the drive team which would make it impossible for me to attend.
Our team has had success in those NEMO areas and would love to participate one day.
We discovered in our first year that there is never a “good time” since NEMO covers all the FIRST programs and mentors are either busy volunteering, coaching, chaperoning, attending the conferences, feeding the troops, or having to leave with the rest of the team as soon as the day’s matches are done. So we have decided to just pick a time each year and try to match it to room availability. I understand your dissappointment because my volunteering duties have prevented me from attending the entire meetings the last few years, and Jenny has graciously run the meeting single-handedly. This year she is not attending Championships but I am only volunteering on Wednesday, so I can attend the whole thing. If your schedule allows, please try and drop in for a few moments between matches.
