NEO Motor in tank drive

Hi guys! Would it be possible to use a NEO motor in the tank drive ? If so, would it be more effective than the CIM?

Yes and depends, but likely yes. It will be more powerful, lighter, and has a built in encoder.

Yes, it is certainly possible, but you will want to use all NEOs. Do not swap a NEO into a drivetrain that is also running CIMs as the difference in speeds could cause damage.

Honestly I would not be too scared of mix and match.

The free speeds and power curves are close enough (meaning max power in about the same rpm range) .

I haven’t really thought about BLDC and Brushed in the same gearbox, but teams have run different motors on the same gearboxes for years despite difference in power and speed. Heck Iirc minicims were designed to play nice alongside CIMs with the same reduction. Going back further you have fish and chips. (fisher price and CIM).

FRC robots don’t really have to last that long, lifespan measured in 10s or hours. (unless you are 3538)
