NEO Vortex Rough Spot?

There seems to be a rough spot with one of our vortexes and the whole roller feels different when spun by hand. Is this an issue?

Video of the issue:

We have observed similar behavior on one of our units in a similar implementation. We swapped units and the behavior persisted. The “rough” spot vanished when we took the motor off the robot and spun by hand however. We think we traced the behavior back to shaft misalignment. I would imagine that the through bore nature of the motors may be more susceptible to angular misalignment with such a long shaft.

You might consider adding additional mounting points to the motor and adjusting the central support to make sure it is aligned (coaxial) with the two side bearings.

I see, and if it’s angular misalignment, then that would be the fault of a bent shaft or misaligned bearing holes right? If you don’t mind me asking, how did your team fix the issue? Or if we keep it as is would it damage the motor or anything?

Yes, angular misalignment can be caused by a bent shaft, or the support bearings not being coaxial with the motor mount.

We continued to run it as is, for several days before we addressed it. In our particular instance, swapping the shaft and support bearings seemed to fix it.

You may want to check if the motor still displays that behavior off the robot and consider a way of improving alignment of the central motor mount to the shaft.
