Hello all!
We are starting a new FRC team in India this year. I am visiting New York / New Jersey from 1st to 6th November 2023 and I am keen to meet experienced coaches, mentors, parents mentors. Agenda -
Understand their functioning of the team
Understand strategies for capacity building, both in terms of team as well as skills.
Exploring collaborative opportunities to grow FIRST in more healthy and sustainable manner in India.
Please let me know / send recommendations on whom should I network with!
Thank you in Advance!
You say New York / New Jersey, so I presume NYC area?
November 1-6 is basically one week away.
Do you know where you’ll be staying? Forms of transportation?
Any other information that can guide the community on your limitations would be beneficial in their recommendations (if you’re staying in NYC, we wont recommend you to travel all the way to Rochester, NY)
As a sidenote, where in India? There may be nearby teams who can provide support locally.
Thank you for the revert. I will be put up in Jersey City and I am open to take up public transport and Uber to the areas within my reach. Also, since I am already visiting there, I am keen to meet up the teams and coaches there.
I will likely be in Mumbai near the end of November, if you’d like me to come meet with your team! I am currently living in Jaipur but have plans to travel.
I’d reach out to Team 694. They’re one of the best frc programs in the NYC area, and they’re great people. Alternatively, if you’re looking to network the NYC FIRST STEM center on Roosevelt island is a great place, and there are usually a bunch of people there from various FIRST programs.
If you’re able to travel, I’m one of the coaches of FRC 321, and we’re based out of Philadelphia. We’re always happy to talk about FRC, and we have a good bit of experience starting new teams.
Hi!
Can you share more details on this? I am keen to travel to your place and spend one full day, but on a weekday. So, in that case, you can also let me know if 2nd or 3rd November works for you?
Looking forward!
If you DM me, I can give you more information and we can set up a time for you to stop by. We’ll be running an event at our school from 9AM to 3PM on November 2nd, and meeting after school from 3PM to 5PM on November 3rd.
Jersey City is a little far from my former high school team in Mt. Olive, NJ, but I’m sure they would also be happy to invite you over for a visit. It is one of the largest FRC programs around. @Coach11-193 can assist if you’d like. His email is also at the bottom contact section of the website https://www.mountoliverobotics.org/
@Libby_K@anon24941552 also run 1923 near Princeton, NJ and are another fantastic program to visit.
Otherwise I agree with the recommendation above to check out 694 in New York City. @jblay Joe Blay runs that program and should be able to assist you. They should also be the easiest to get to via public transportation from Jersey City.
Best of luck, always cool to see new FIRST programs growing in India.
And welcome to Chief Delphi! Definitely feel free to ask any and all questions here for a wide range of experienced advice.
Indeed great to hear from you. Thank you so much for your valuable inputs. I will get in touch with the relevant people and see how I can go, meet them! It is great to see FIRST growing in India but there is a lot to do! Maybe, one day, we shall reach to a position where FRC regional is hosted in India!
I might be a bit late to the party here, but FRC Team 1676 is just a short 45-minute train ride up the NJTransit Pascack Valley line from Jersey City! We’d be happy to connect and discuss further. We also have several teams in India that we collaborate with regularly. @Ashwinshah , I’ll message you our head coach’s contact information.
Also - FRC Team 9015 is a new team located directly in Jersey City that just head a breakout rookie year - including a district win and earning the Rookie All-Star Award at the district, district championship, and world championship division level! @Drennael , could you get @Ashwinshah in touch with Dave?
Hi @Ashwinshah, I’m a mentor for Team 9015, Questionable Engineering. We were a rookie team last year, and we were honored to win Rookie All Star at the district, district championship, and championship division levels. We work out of our head mentor Dave Slurz’ garage in downtown Jersey City. I’d be happy to talk more via DM and arrange a time for you to stop by and talk to the team!
I think you mentioned possibly taking a trip to the Philadelphia area - there’s a pretty large off-season competition Ramp Riot happening on November 4th hosted by Team 341, Miss Daisy about 30 minutes north of Philly. There will be about 34-36 teams in attendance, and it’s a great opportunity to find some of the best teams from the area all in one place.
