New CRyptonite 624 Website

CRyptonite has a new website!

Any feedback you may have is appreciated.

Looks great! I really liked the robot gallery page, very clean and elegant while packaging a good deal of content.
I would suggest adding a page for team history, to showcase the many awards you’ve won.

This is a major upgrade. A lot of really nice ideas. We might be borrowing some of these during our website overhaul this year. I like the full list of alumni and how simple your menu system is.

I really love the website! It is very clean and functional. The pages, however, do load a little slowly, so I ran an audit from Google Chrome on the site.

  1. There are A LOT of CSS rules, and not all of them are used for every page. Maybe try splitting the CSS sheets up to optimize load time?

  2. Since the pages are fairly large, try to enable GZIP compression.

Other than the load time, it looks and works great!

Looks pretty nice. Could you incorporate/embed youtube videos for your team rather than just link to your team’s Youtube page?

Unconventional layout, but you pulled it off. Fairly easy to navigate, though for a moment I couldn’t figure out where the navigation menus were.

The information pages are really well laid out - the summary section fits perfectly on my screen, and everything else follows in a very clean and pleasing format. To a certain extent, it’s a little too good - I kind of expected animations and interactivity.

A couple things to note:

For one, on some pages (I spotted this on the overview page), the navigation menus only drop down when the mouse is in the lower left corner of the button. Example in case would be the “About CRyptonite” button on the Overview page. It’s a little more funky on the Members and Parent’s button.

The robot page is really nice. It would be nicer if it fit all on one screen, though. (Also, I thought legal exposed lasers for FRC weren’t powerful enough to make their beams visible, but I like the 2012 robot pic background).

The abrupt change for the gallery is unsettling, which may or may not be compounded by the fact that it’s technically a different website. Same goes for the Videos.

Aside from those small issues, your website looks really nice, clean, and inviting. I really like how the color scheme complements the colors in the pictures - it doesn’t make anything pop out outlandishly. Good job on your website!

P.S.: About the menu thing, it just went away. Not sure if it’s my browser or what. You may want to stress test that feature on multiple browsers/multiple computers to see if you can replicate the error.

We are working on integrating that somehow with the robot gallery to associate them together and organize them by year.

Thank you.

Hmm, that’s interesting. Are they extremely slow or relatively slow?

Yup, that link is temporary while we put it together.

Yes the menus are shaky from time to time, especially on IE and mobile, but we’re fixing it ad the errors come. For now however, a refresh should fix the problem, although inconvenient, it is temporary.

Also the pictures and videos will have an integrated system, just needed it to have something for now.

Thanks for the information all, it always helps to have more people looking at it so we can make it better.

I want my page to load instantaneously

Relatively slow. Instead of loading in a tenth of a second, it takes a second. No big deal.
