Booooooo… Only one Connecticut event.
Well, there’s a second Springfield event which historically has been almost a Connecticut event, so I’m guessing that CT teams will manage. Definitely sad to see Hartford not on the list, though. I hope it returns.
Also a bit awkward that the return of Pine Tree (which they promised after cancelling last year) is once again on a three-event weekend. At least it’s not overlapping with a New Hampshire event this time, but still might be quite the challenge to get teams and volunteers to sign up for.
Week 3 is usually a popular week to compete in NE so I’d bet they did that on purpose.
For the purposes of transportation, it’s out-of-state for us if it’s a foot into Massachusetts. It’s the difference between a $300 school bus weekend and a $5k coach bus weekend.
We’ve been going to waterbury and Hartford for years now. Sad to see Hartford gone and without a valid replacement IN Connecticut.
Well, yes that is unfortunate. I was foolishly just thinking of the physical distance from Hartford to Springfield, not the logistical distance.
Hopefully, the return to the Colisee, which is a full hour farther south than Farmington, will be more attractive to our friends south and west of the borders, without a NH event also happening. That travel budget hurt last year.
Yup, unfortunately I believe this increases our bus cost as well. I’m sure most others are in the same boat for student transportation.
Yup. I know my town has like a weird mile limit and then you have to rent coach busses. Some arbitrary number. I’m sure you remember!
Does anyone happen to know if WPI is actually taking place on Easter Sunday? The event is listed as a Friday-Sunday.
We contacted NEFIRST for clarification, and they confirmed that the WPI event does conclude on Easter Sunday.
Thanks for the heads-up. I’m liking this schedule less and less. Though perhaps mostly because it’s going to be more difficult than usual for me to be taking time off of work this Spring, not really anything relating to the event schedule. I know that trying to coordinate all the various venues and various issues that goes into making a schedule has to be insanely difficult.
Also, for other people like me who are trying to plan time off of work and the like in the spring around this schedule, don’t forget the April 8 total solar eclipse taking place the Monday after the District Championship, in case you wanted to make plans for that too.
To all you Connecticut teams…
Hartford takes over the Big E event week 1. Waterbury is still week 2.
