Well first off I moved the program over to sourceforge due to the fact that the site I was previously using kept shutting down. You can find the project Here. Some new developments:
A default excel sheet is automatically created if one isn’t found in the main folder (C:\my documents\scouting data), labels and all. You can still open another file once in the program, simply go to functions>open file
2.The add on is now available, it’s installed separately and accessed through the main program by going to functions>open database file.
You can now type numbers into the combo boxes directly.
Thats about all the noticeable changes, the code is still being cleaned up and will be released as soon as it’s readable.
Alright the files are now back up. I advise all teams who are upgrading from the previous version to this one to uninstall the previous version before installing this one. The add on is not necessary in order to use the program, but I’m sure you’ll appreciate it if you use it =).
If your thinking about using this program, PLEASE post your team number and regional that you will be attending. I would love to know who’s using it =)
You can get in trouble with SourceForge if you don’t post any code for a project that has an exe.
I wrote a similar app in access, the night before competition, but this looks very good. If you would have released this before the Milwaukee regional I would have tried it.
Would you be interested in integrating this into FusionEdit? If you don’t know what FusionEdit is you can find info here.
The only problem I had with this program is that when I tried to open the file it gave me an error saying invalid file. Besides that I can’t see anything wrong with it.
And I was wondering, what language did you use for this?
It will give you that error if you select a file that is already open. It opens a file automatically on startup. And yes it’s written in VB, i used visual studio express.
And about the source forge policies, I’ve been TRYING to contact anyone who can tell me what is acceptable for the code. But to no avail, so at this point if i get in trouble I’ll switch back to the other download site.
Well i didn’t know if i could just upload the VB express file, or if i had to submit the code in a text form. And thank you, this is actually the first program I’ve ever made (besides the “hello world” application, lol). And can you please give me a little more info about the problem. Does it occur when you use functions>openfile, or does it happen when the program starts.
FYI don’t use the sourcecode on the SF project page, it’s an old version. The new one will be released as soon as i can get it from the other developer.
Well today was the first day of SPBLI, and the program is working flawlessly. So I am proud to announce that it is finally battle tested. I would also like to say that we have 98 downloads on sourceforge! I guess none of them liked the program enough to post tho =/
Well championships are over now, and although my team was not in the position to choose teams for our alliance, the scouting program proved to be an extremely useful tool. We used the program constantly during the day without any crashes. I don’t know whether we will choose to make another program for next year. but if we do I will definitely make it accessible to all FIRST teams.
