New SoCal Offseason?

Hey teams!

As many of you know, I help run an off season event called Beach Blitz, a Southern California 2.5 day off season event focused on quality and empowering teams to better their program.

This year, we had to reject about 20 teams to the event due to space constraints.
On top of that 2 other normally scheduled Southern California off season events could not host this year. Leaving Beach Blitz as the only one.

Of course, we want to provide an off season event to every team that wants one, we want to make our region better and better.

Members of both LA and OC FIRST teams are working on hosting one at Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, CA (south orange county), nothing is 100% confirmed but we want to gauge interest in order to assess.

The event would be the Oct 28th weekend.

Please fill out this form so we can proceed and please send this to other teams.
If you are interested in volunteering and helping run this event ( we need a whole new crew) please personally message me on CD, Facebook, or anyway you’d like to contact me!

Thanks!
(Yes, I am slightly insane)

Well we knew that.

I can see Matt’s promo video already:
From the crazys who brought you Beach Blitz…

But in all seriousness this could be very exciting

Filled out the form.

Sad to see Socal’s other two events on hiatus for 2017, but glad to see other options popping up.

Head’s up that currently your date conflicts with Capital City Classic. Not sure how big a deal to you this is but it would preclude potential Key Volunteers (definitely myself, probably others) who’ve already committed to doing CCC from working this event.

Yes we realize this, this was the only weekend the gym at that school was available.

All good, we are filled up on teams at CCC ( which is a first for our event!) I think we’ve had to turn down at least one team, we’ll forward those teams to this thread!

It goes without saying, but thanks for putting in the effort to make FRC in Cali awesome!

I hear if a person gets ten stamps on their “Running an offseason event” card, they get their first District event free!

Thanks Mike! Means a lot!

Also that last line almost made me spit out my coffee :stuck_out_tongue:

An additional consideration is that the Cheesy Arena package is rented for that weekend also (I’m pretty certain).

I hope this goes through, and I envy your ability to plan events. I tried, I failed - it’s really hard!

Aerial Assist BREAD Bowl 2018 has gotta be a thing.

We also realize this! CCC is renting Chezy Arena, in fact, Beach Blitz is as well right before

We are doing everything in our power to host an event because the teams are asking for it, we have spoken to FIRST HQ and will rent FIRST on season FMS for the event and field is coming from SoCal FIRST.

I went through all these options last year during the first Beach Blitz.

Thanks for your concern and if you need any help/advice hosting events I’m currently up to 4 every offseason and will always answer questions

Ugh, going to be in Iceland. Will see if the team wants to come without us.

Note the PNW has two full fields and have rented them out of the district in the past. Can’t say if there is a reason that one of the FMS couldn’t go down or not but the shipping will be much less to and from from WA than it will coming from IN or NH.

PNW FMS is booked that weekend, emailed about 2 weeks ago!

But in all honesty, I’ll try my best. With a 50% chance I leave the state for college it’d be a fun thing to go out with.

Sent in to vounteer, Torbots are discussing at least a little bit.

I’m sure I can find something that you’ve missed since you’re obviously an overwhelmed novice; I just need more time for a really juicy “gotcha”.

So CHS has an FMS they’d be willing to send over? Or do we just get Wil Payne with a couple of minions to trip all the driver’s stations into auto/teleop/disabled simultaneously?

Hi All-

This looks like a do-able thing, though the details have yet to be finalized.

We hope to have the solid info out by this weekend–cost, timing, parking, whatnot…

It’s a big step for Team 5199, and they will need all our support!

Hey all!

Please continue to fill out the form.
This event cannot happen without teams, and currently only about 8 teams have showed interest.

Pauline I don’t think you’re qualified to organize this.
