Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.
Our team bought new Krakens for our swerve drive, and we wanted to test them out before mounting them to the robot. All attempts at using the control section in Phoenix Tuner X to get them to turn have failed. CoastMode makes them rotate sporadically. Trying to edit configs gives us the error “A request received invalid arguments. Is diagnostics and firmware up to date?” We have updated the firmware, updated Phoenix Tuner, fiddled with different IDs and CAN wiring setups, nada. Even in the code it does nothing, and requesting the firmware version gives us an error and returns -1. All three motors we have tried do the same thing, before and after we update the firmware. Did we get a bad batch? It feels like we did everything we were told.
Can you share a picture of the entire tuner page including the Kraken?
Send an email to [email protected] and [email protected] (both in same email) describing your situation. Omar from CTRE has been very helpful!
Will do, our next meeting is Saturday. Do you mean the main page with all the devices listed?
Dumb question: do you have 12 Volt power on it? SparkMaxes will happily talk on USB but won’t run the motor without the big DC power. Krakens may have that too.
That’s not a dumb question, but yes, we did verify we were sending 12VDC to them.
We replaced our Falcons with Kraken and it worked with very little modification. It took longer to do the wiring than the programming. Anyway. Your problem sounds like an operator error sort of thing. Good this that should be easy to fix. I absolutely would call CTRE today and discuss the problem. Have as much information as you can for them.
Are you sure the RIO you’re using is on the 2024 image (if going that route)?
Honestly that might be it. We’re currently using one of the underclassmen’s test robots to try the motors, and I don’t know if they have imaged that roborio to the 2024 image yet. If that ends up being it I will pull all my hair out.
Did you guys find a solution? We’re facing the same error currently and would greatly appreciate any advice.
We formatted the RoboRio to the newest image. Our junior members hadn’t done that but I thought they did.
