New team in Sac California, but we’re made up of mostly VEX and lego kids. I do FRC but in helping to guide the team I just want some general ideas of what kind of mechanisms we should really keep an eye on or methods we should strive for.

To clarify, this is a new FTC or FRC team?
FTC! Sorry about the confusion, I only have experience in FRC so I was wondering if there were any differences and such.
The REV Starter kit is a great place to start! I would recommend Game Manual 0, which has great resources on how to do just about anything in FTC. It might also be a good idea to reach out to other teams to meet with locally or find teams to meet with remotely on zoom to help you and your team members gain an understanding of the FTC game. Additionally, you can check out the FTC Open Alliance, which is similar to the FRC Open Alliance that I would assume you are familiar with. Best of luck!

I’d hugely recommend reaching out to other teams in the area, especially if your members are completely new to robotics, as maybe they have some spare parts, or be willing to let you use their machines mid you would want to fabricate anything, plus they might have some tips. For SW I’d say get comfortable with android studio and GitHub, and look at other teams, with HW I’d say look online at the go builda kitbot, and robonauts FTC everybot. generally, I find it to be a better erector set to build a chassis. I think their mecanum wheels are also superior to others.
