The following is a copy of a letter of one of the leaders I met on Wednesday in Nashua, NH at a FIRST robotics conferece. Please read this and help them out. It’s the first robot team in VT since the first year FIRST was around. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this cause.
To Whom It May Concern:
Hello. We are a group of high school students from a number of schools in Central Vermont who are trying to organize a robotics team. This is a worldwide event in which teams have six weeks to build a 130-lb radio-controlled robot. This robot must be able to perform a function that will be revealed to us in early January. In the spring we will meet with other teams to compete. For the competition we will play in a timed game complete with referees. While teams from around the world participate, Vermont has not had a team for nine years. Furthermore, Vermont is one of only a few states not to have a team. We are hoping to change this. In order to register for the competition we need to raise $5000 by December 14. Additional money is needed in order to build the robot, and for transportation to and from the event. We really need your support in order to get to the competition. Your support is covered under a 501C3. Since Vermont is not an industrial state, this is a rare opportunity for us to get into robotics. Furthermore, this is a great opportunity for marketing, public speaking, teamwork and us to learn about mechanics, CAD, electronics, fabrication, animation, photography, videography, finance.
