Not sure if Axis cam getting power

We’re using an Axis M1011 and I’m not sure if it’s getting enough power. We spliced the wire and connected it to our VRM, it’s supposed to get 5V. When we plug the ethernet from the camera into the router and the router into the rio, we can connect to our wifi network from the driver station but the Axis setup tool (yes, fully updated) can’t find the camera. Any help is welcome! THANK you!! Attached picture, we’ve it plugged in on the right.http://i.imgur.com/TsDpcN8.jpg

How did you plug it in? does the port you used have the ability to supply enough current?

DO you have any status lights turning on on the camera?

Did you try to use the supplied power supply to see if the camera starts correctly?

Where on the VRM do you have this connected?

The camera also says that it uses 1.5 amps of power. You may not have enough power on the one connection to run the radio and camera.

The VRM connection looks fine.

  • I assume the VRM status lights go on when it’s powered up?
  • Check the status lights on the Axis camera to see if anything is happening there.
*]You can use a multi-meter on the barrel connector to see if the 5v is being supplied.

The power light is on in the cam but not the network light or the light behind the actual camera.

Try using the power cord that came with the camera and plug it into the wall. See if the camera starts as expected. If it does I would guess that you are not providing enough power to power both devices off of one connection.

Try plugging the camera into the other 5VDC connection by itself and see if you can get it to start properly.

If the Power LED on the back of the Camera is on, then you have power to the camera. Looks like the camera is the only device attached to the 5v2a connection. That should be enough power.

If the Network LED on the back of the Camera is off, then you do not have a network connection.

Check your network cable.

Instead of plugging in the roborio, try plugging in the driver station to the other network connection on the radio. Can you ping the camera?
