NOTA BENE: CIMcoder wiring has CHANGED

Something I found this evening when I went to fetch the datasheet for terminating cables:

AndyMark has begun offering a new version of the CIMcoder.

The original version, am-3314, required external pullup resistors on the A and B signal lines. The new version, am-3314a, does not require external pullup resistors, as they are built in by Phoenix America.

Anyway, this only really makes a difference for use on the Talon SRX and a couple other things as the RoboRIO has built in pull ups.

Also Andymark please change those god $@#$@#$@#$@# tiny molex connectors for something better like a JST-PH. Our robots aren’t neat laboratory test benches. The wire gauge is too small for rugged “mobile” applications. Inevitably no matter how much strain relief we put on the wires a student will accidentally tug on them while repairing the robot and feel awful for the rest of the day because we ran out of spare wiring harnesses and our robot can no longer shoot accurately.

Agreed mman1506. One of our CIMcoder cables appears to be broken and we haven’t even connected it yet. By the way, we are unsure about the pinout: is pin1 orange?

I definitely agree on this… those little connectors do not stand up to even the rigors of installation sometimes. We have tried everything but the connectors keep breaking or not making the proper contact… anyone else have this problem?
