Number of Buttons

Heyo buds, how many buttons do different teams make before a season, and how many do you usually hand out, my team is in the New England District

I don’t have a specific number but a lot. More then you think you will need. You will eventually run out and I find you need more the further you progress in the season.

We always just…make buttons. Our compliance officers and secretaries usually make them when they don’t have anything to do.

My best advice is to just make them any time someone has time enough to make them. They always seem to run out. And if somehow they don’t, use them for outreach or give them to team members to keep.

Make a lot more than you think. They will go fast at competition.

I don’t know what a compliance officer is in an FRC context (though, I have some guesses) but regardless, yes. If you devote all of your people who are not busy to making buttons, you won’t have too many. Always be making buttons.

We don’t make ours but, order 1000 every year. Depending on how far we go, we run out or we hand the rest out at our town parades and elementary schools. The kids love em!

Since the round buttons that a lot of teams do cost too much for our team, we made them out of 80/20 aluminum bars. They are at most ~1/4 in thick. It was a HIT! 90% of the people visiting our pit took those, or both. As we made a lot of them last year, we have a bunch left over so i do not think we will be making some this year.

Yeah I’d go with 1000 +/- for each regional, depending on the size and the make or order some more if you make it to Championship

We make a minimum of 1000 per 60 team regional, and another 2000 for Champs. And then we’re usually making more on the bus ride to Champs as well. But we don’t do buttons, we make bows. It helps set us apart, and it’s something everyone on the team can do at the same time!

Hey OP, honestly it’s a case by case kinda thing and what kind of audience you have at events, what event model your area follows, etc. For us, even making 500+ for Worlds and most events we attend, our buttons disappear like that so even attempting when attempting to overcompensate, we’re still bound to run out of buttons.

However, based on the fact that y’all are districts and the events you’re attending have a fair amount less of teams in attendance, 400-500 is a nice amount to make per event imo. And if you run out of buttons at an event, take it as a compliment that that many people like your brand  Finally, if you really never want to run out of buttons, just have a consistent flow of freshman making them throughout build season and in an ideal world, you should be set for both your events (and if you’re going to Detroit, you have time in between to ramp up production for that if you notice your team’s buttons flying off the shelves).

We make 300 or 350 for each competition. Judge how many to bring based on how many teams are attending. Each day we put out 100 and if they’re gone in the first ten minutes, you don’t put more out. This helps makes sure people who show up on Thursday, don’t take them all before parents, sponsors, judges can get buttons on Friday and Saturday. We usually save ~10 buttons for safety advisers and judges.

Also don’t have a lot of different designs, people will play the “I want one of each”. Great way to burn buttons.

Compliance officer: One who makes sure the robot doesn’t break the rules of the game/field, also may serve as the safety officer.
