NuVision tablet as driver station

Here recently I’ve been testing a NuVision tablet that costs about $80. Here is a video of it working… I’ve shared this via dropbox or from Website. The thing I like best about this is how portable everything is and it’s great as a diagnostic tool. As shown in this demo I used one of our former driver stations to view the smart dashboard.

The thing about this setup is that there were some challenges to get it working, so I’ll pass this along incase anyone else has ran into the same problems.

  1. Windows 10 needed Bonjour… I took the easy way and installed iTunes, and then removed iTunes (I like using appwiz.cpl command line sort by latest installs)… iTunes has about 4 different things to remove, while keeping Bonjour

  2. The Matricom G-Pad doesn’t officially work with PC Bluetooth, but unofficially as shown here it can by pairing using home and A… it took me about 5 attempts to get it to work. Luckily others had luck doing this as I was about to give up on it.

Not demo’d yet but worth mentioning is that I also will test a Bluetooth trackball (Nakabayahi)… but really the cool thing that I wanted to point out (literally) is how I can actually push the buttons on the driver station to enable the robot… I’ve always wanted to do that when I saw this UI.

One final note: This tablet can also connect to a larger monitor via HDMI, so this can open other possibilities. I’ve also been able to remote to other machines, so it is possible for example to access other machines to deploy code or run other large programs as this tablet has 32gb storage (with 64gb TF card sold separately). I was able to install DS on 32gb alone though, but had to expand due to windows updates but then I purged the old versions (backed them up to the card).

Cool stuff.

But what the hell is that thing in the video you’re controlling?!?!

+1
That thing looks siiiiick

The cad is a bit outdated… will post an update once it is all finished.
