When you say $400, do you mean the carrier itself cost that much? Were you able to get a discount on the jetson without the giant development kit carrier board? I really hate how much space the darn thing takes up, but it seems to me like we would have to pay full price for the jetson sans carrier, and then add the cost of the carrier on top of it, more than doubling the cost.
The Auvidea J120 carrier is less than $400. That’s all I truly care about for FRC accounting under the current rules.
Nvidia offers the TX1/TX2 development kits for less than $400 and the TX1 is in FIRST Choice so for FRC accounting purposes it is $0. I am hoping that the TX2s end up in FC next year but we shall see.
As for actual money, yeah, you have to add the cost of the carrier to the cost of the development kit, though I believe there are a few places online now where you can purchase the SoMs without the development boards… none of them offer educational discounts though.
Would anyone know if we can apply for the discount already for the 2018 season? I noticed the Nvidia page is for the 2017 Steamworks season.
Thanks
Indeed you can. Just fill in the form!
We have a TX2 and we have ROS on it communicating with ROS on the RIO. One question we have is what tool is best to stream video back to the driver station? We have plenty of processing power on the diver station and in the Jetson.
I read on eyear that there are streaming tools that can do this, but are those still the best way? Is H-264 good? I read its processor intensive and wont behave well on dropped packets? I just don’t know whats the best ave to take.
Any tools or packages that stand out?
Thanks.
I just tried to use the form to buy a TX2, but I’m having trouble getting past the email requirement (as I’m a mentor, not an educator).
What’s the workaround?
Hi Qworg, if you select multiple units, it should allow you to submit - I receive the requests and K-12/FRC is allowed - let me know if you are being blocked. Thanks!
Dusty to the rescue!
Sadly, I’m being blocked still. I appreciate the help! Let me know what you need from me?
Hi!
I’m having the same issue. It won’t let me submit the form to apply for a discount code because I’m not using a .edu address. Any ideas?

Post on the Nvidia developer forums in the embedded/TX2 area and they will get you straight. Dusty doesn’t check CD regularly but there are a host of people who check the NVIDIA embedded developer forums so they will see it.
Thanks! Will do.
