Does anyone have any expereince with using the nylon sprockets for the final drive to the wheels?
not quite sure why my physics teacher and team shrieked in horror when I showed them the page in msc with those. they behaved like a vampire exposed to sunlight, something about shattering and being fragile!
The big problem I see is getting the torque to the sprocket to start with… if its cross drilled… the force is concentrated in one place… but if you could somehow spread it out…
but i think the best would be to go with steel.

My team tried nylon sprockets on the drive team two years ago, and we went through the originals and both spares we had bought in the weekend before shipping. Needless to say we lost a couple days of practice and had to replace our broken plastic sprockets with steel ones before our practice rounds at regionals. I would recommend sticking with steel.
IF you absoultly had to have to use them… id say get like 3/8" or bigger in WIDTH that may withstand the forces of a fast drivetrain, MABY.
during our final 4th place climb in '99 we were using nylon roller sprockets…
with no problems…if mounted right, these fiberglass reinforced sprockets can save weight and be very effective.

I think they would be fine. Just use large ones, (like 30 tooth) and bolt the sprocket directly to the wheel placing your fasteners as far away from the shaft as possible. We plan to use them this year, I’ll try to remeber to post if we have any problems.
