Do we use the VEX starter code (look under VEX Robotics Code) or is there a different template for us if we choose to use MPLAB? Does it matter for MPLAB?
Dear Killer Bee member,
OCCRA recommends the use of EasyC V2 2.9.3.0 for 2009 for the VEX competition portion. I am personally familiar with EasyC so I can provide more support for troubleshooting.
OCCRA team’s were provided a license for EasyC a few years ago. Can you determine if the Bees ever used EasyC on a laptop? IF so, you can use the same laptop and upgrade over the existing license.
I really can’t support the MPLAB programming environment so I don’t recommend using it. I think you will find that EasyC V2 will support whatever programming functions you need for VEX. Furthermore, I have some great presentations posted on Chief Delphi, 3 white papers given at FIRST Controls Workshops, plus line tracking examples.
I think we have EasyC, although the person who did programming in OCCRA before graduated last year. I prefer C because I program the big robot in it and because I am very familiar with it. We are only using basic sensors like pots, bumpers, line followers, and encoders, so functions shouldn’t be too much of an issue
Dear Palardy,
It’s great that you know how to program in C for the IFI control system with the “Big” robot. You can certainly go down that path if you wish because you are familiar with it.
But, you may want to “challenge” yourself by learning a “second” programming language skill. EasyC is a “quasi” graphical programming language and I think you will find it very easy to learn already having some programming experience. The “challenge” is yours to accept!
