[OCCRA]: OCCRA a few days before first comp.

This build season has flown by. We never seem to have enough time to do it all. We are not going to be 100% by the first competition but we will finish more as the season wears on. How is everyone else doing? This years game is very challenging with many things to do. We hope everyone is well and cant wait to see everyone at Holly high school.
Team 27 OCCRA OSTCNW

For those who don’t know, OCCRA is a robotic competition in Oakland County, Michigan that runs in the fall. It is made up of around 20 local high schools. We compete at some of the local high schools(like mini regionals) and then have a finals in November. It is a great program!!! lots of fun and the students learn a great deal.

We have attached a picture of this years robot so far. We also posted one in the OCCRA 2004 section of the picture galleries. please post any that you have, it would be fun to see some before the first competition.

We’l have our robot driving and will be able to get the “tubies”, but its not going to be 100% done like we want it to be. But then again, no one’s robot ever is fully working to how they want it before the first tournamant.
It’s crunch time and everyone knows it. Maybe we’ll have to do what we did last year and spend the night at the school to get it done. That’s the advantage to having the first tournament at your school. We can’t wait to see everyone this saturday at Holly, and good luck to all the teams. It’s going to be an awsome season this year.

Well since we can’t compete in the first competition, we are still working to get our bot somewhat finished for the second, and even that is proving to be an incredibly difficult task. So many parts are being done at once that it is hard to say how far along we are. Our drive train is golden and another part of the bot is done but the more crutial parts are taking a little bit longer to complete and stabilize. Then there is the issue of almost nobody working on this thing but that is a problem we have dealt with every year until now. Most days, one person (maybe 2) are working for more than one hour and its typically only one person who comes in on sundays. But then again, its getting finished and nobody is complaining.

we finally got our robot driving today! yay!! now for just revising and adding components. aaaand as a plus we wont be at the first holly comp so we have lotsa time to do more!! aaaand steal ideas there!! yay!!! sooooooo happy!

You guys are driving already? We’re jealous! We might have ours running by late Friday but the arm…who knows, maybe that too by the end of the day Saturday. This is our best robot in 3 years (quality-wise) but you never know about strategy until the games begin!

 We’re not even done buillding the frame yet… Hehe. We’ve got a way to pick up the Tubies, but all of our whells are tilted in one direction or another. :frowning:

ohh. well, hammers work too lol. we are driving and our arm is completely done now. just a few stuff we need to touch up… and then practice practice practice. which was our fatal flaw last year had no time to practice. well our chain just came loose so we need to tension that up and we are ready!

We’re nearly done with the appendage, considering all the extreme changes that we had to make to our design seeing that we didn’t have the materials we needed… And yes, I’m talking EXTREME changes… Oy

Anyways, our wheels are on, but we just got the chainbreaker so the chain will be going on on Monday… Ideally, we will have it running by then

Hey, our robot looks aesthetically pleasing, at least… The past two years, the robots have been just about 50% duct tape :o

The Placebo is ready for competition and the drive if fully functional. We might have a secondary function - a basic arm - ready for Holly, but if not, that will make its debut at the Pontiac Northern Tournament.

JUST 50%??? heh. you guys have NO idea… :stuck_out_tongue: well this year we seem to be using more4 electrical tape to secure things rather than duct tape as electrical is definitly a “cleaner” adhesive. and we need to figure out how to make it “beautiful”. a dragon design wouldnt work too well with our bot this year (hint hint)

Can someone provide the start time for tomorrow?
