[OCCRA]: [OCCRA]: Encoders/other sensors?

Are teams allowed to use sensors like encoders, gyros, or potentiometers? They are off the shelf from AndyMark and I scrolled though the rules for sensors and encoders and didn’t find anything

Thanks

**RB5 ** Electronic Modifications: Teams are NOT allowed to modify or alter the joystick controllers, the control system, VEXnet keys, batteries, chargers, or motors in any way not specifically approved by OCCRA. If in doubt, please ask for a rules clarification.

OFFICIAL ANSWER: There are no rules, per se, limiting specific electronic components other than in the OCCRA rules. Have you looked at the VEX robotics website for the sensors that they feature? These sensors are targeted for the VEX environment and have features that make it easy to work with the Cortex system. For example, we have used the encoders very successfully on VEX robots in the past.

Before you purchase any non-VEX sensors, why don’t you send an email again? We can do a quick evaluation to see if you choice will make it easy to interface to the Cortex System. Perhaps we can guide you to a better choice for your particular application of the sensor for your OCCRA robot.

Are you coming to the OCCRA workshop on Tuesday? I am showing how to use a digital speed sensor to measure RPM and perform Closed Loop PI control to control speed using a threaded, hall effect sensor from Jameco.

It’s not likely to be an issue for sensors, but don’t forget there is a $90 limit per item in OCCRA.
