The Sweet Repeat II is coming in October. We have been considering a 2 v 2 format. There have been some helpful comments about BattleCry. We’d like to hear from more of you about the use of a 2 v 2 or any other modification. Suggestions? Complaints?
Praise? Thanks!
Since kids will be on the field, we want to know what you think.
i liked how battlecry 2 was set up…the only problem that wasnt really considered is that limbo bots, being able to limbo under the devider, can limbo under the sides. if a bot leaves the field of its own volition, then its disqualified…but what if a limbo bot gets thrown out by another bot, as happened to us?

A game change at SMSR2? Hmmm, maybe I should start preparing a modified scoring system, just in case…
I am a strong advocate of 2 vs 2. I believe this year’s competition was, at times, boring to say the least. I even enjoyed watching 1 vs 1 vs 1 much more than this year’s competition. If I had a single suggestion to FIRST, it would be to bring back head-to-head competition, in order to bring the excitement back to the game from a spectator stand-point. This will in turn make the game more interesting from a television stand-point, and allow the number of teams and number of people affected by FIRST to grow as a direct result.
However, all this being said, I also believe that the game should not be modified in off-season competitions. When a team is designing their robot, they design it with a game in mind. When that game is changed, the game is no longer testing the design and implementation of teams and how well they work together. It is more about testing how adaptive the teams are. Just as I would have been disappointed had FIRST changed the game after the shipping date (even if it was to make the game more competitive and exciting to spectators), I would feel the same about off-season competitions.
Kevin
Yes, but after the shipping date, we’d have no time to adjust the robot. In the off-season, we have plenty of time.
i liked the 4 vs. 0. we were one of the best teams that put on the big ball. we could get 2 big balls on in a match. Thats one of the main reasons that we got drafted. Team 71 Hammond even gave us the “Most Reliable Robot” award at the Motorola Midwest Reagional just for that reason. If you change it to 2 vs. 2 i don’t feel that we would be really that necessary (or any other big ballers).
I guess i’m just a person who likes the games in their origional form. it’s sorta like kicking Dean and Woodie in the butt for changing the form of the game, after all that work to make it. Thats how i feel.
