Hi all -

As a result of exploring the viability of a dedicated fund, we are glad to announce the official launch of the Argosy Entrepreneurial Fund for FIRST Alums. Here are the details:

The Argosy Foundation, chaired by John Abele, has been a long-time supporter of FIRST, and we are excited to announce our pilot of an Argosy Entrepreneurial Fund for FIRST Alum. This new initiative looks to build upon the entrepreneurial spirit of the FIRST community by actively seeking to invest in innovative ideas and companies. We believe in supporting FIRST alums who possess a commitment to pioneering solutions and driving industry change. We are primarily seeking to provide finance to early-stage companies. However, we encourage companies at all stages to apply.

To apply, please fill out this short form.

If you have any questions or need further information, please direct all communications to Jacob or Gerardo at [email protected]. We will be accepting submissions until October 30th. The submitted applications will be reviewed with our trustees, and the applicants selected for funding will be notified later this fall. We will use the email addresses submitted on the application to communicate further updates regarding this process.

Thank you for considering this opportunity, and we look forward to receiving your application. Please share this opportunity with your peers to help us reach as many FIRST Alum Entrepreneurs as possible!

I had a chance to meet with these folks a couple of months ago and came away impressed with their commitment to helping FIRST Alumni Entrepreneurs of all kinds. I’ve always wished for there to be a fund supporting FIRST Alumni directly, I know firsthand that FIRST helps prepare you well for the challenges of being an entrepreneur.

Even if this doesn’t apply directly to you, let’s help spread the word wide to all the FIRST Alumni out there.

I see that this is very focused on company-based solutions. Is there an opportunity to request funding for academic research endeavors?

Hi -

What would be the nature of this work? Would this be within a University setting? I’ll talk to my colleagues and await a more detailed response. I will say we do hold a degree of flexibility in our review process. Please direct future questions to the provided email for a quicker response time. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Gerardo
