Old game elements?

Anyone know where you can purchase previous years’ game elements? (i.e. basketballs from 2012, frisbees from 2013, etc.) - since AM only carries the current season’s pieces. A quick eBay search reveals no results.

The basketballs came from Gopher. The Frisbees are probably Frisbees, but you might need to examine a real one carefully to see if you can find the makers name and model number molded into it. I doubt Orbit balls will ever exist again. The Logomotion tubes were probably custom made for FIRST? The Orbis totes are still being made, I think.

But yeah, other teams are likely the only source for a lot of old FIRST stuff.

Contact AM, they may have some old stock … or can point you to where they sourced it.

Not quite true–we also have the 2016 boulder, the gold blocks that were in FTC’s Block Party and RES-Q, the wiffle ball from Cascade Effect and RES-Q, and the practice golf balls from Cascade Effect.

We try to stock plenty for the season, but we also stock them knowing that after a certain point (read: after off-seasons) the demand sorta kinda falls off a cliff. Most years, the manual specifies the manufacturer and its part number; you could follow up with them directly to see if the product (or something similar to it) is still in production.

I am curious about Lunacy wheels. Our team loves to use them on our robot carts since they can be slid sideways without lifting or damaging the tarps.

The Frisbee’s were made by Wham-o. The link has a picture of the Frisbee with the Wham-o logo.

You can go to the old game manual and get the specification. Often the exact model number is obsolete but you can get close. For instance the Frisbee a specific model number. The manual also lists weight and dia…

2017 Gear: (AndyMark)
2017 Fuel (5"): (AndyMark) OR (Gopher)
2016 Boulder (10"): (AndyMark) OR (Gopher)
2015 Tote: (Orbis)
2015 Recycling Bin: (Rubbermaid bin) (Rubbermaid Lid)
2014 Ball: (Sportogo 2ft Dia. exercise balls with 6-panel 400D nylon red or blue covers; not sold by manufacturer anymore, call AM or buy 24" ball with nylon cover)
2013 Frisbee: (Wham-O 11" Custom Colored R/W/Blue)
2012 Basketball (Size 4 “Soccer”): (Gopher)

If you want to find any other pieces from previous years, simply Google “[year] frc manual”, click on the first PDF, then Ctrl+F “game piece”. 2011’s game doesn’t provide a manufacturer for the tubes.

Ok thank you guys very much!

'92 would probably be the easiest to find. (tennis balls)
The only game piece I can think of that can be sourced from common materials is 2005’s tetra.

The Orbit ball could be done. Rumor was that the team-built versions–lexan strips, little bit of padding, and the proper cloth–held up at least as well as the purchased versions. Same for 1999’s floppies, if someone still has a pattern.

2002 and 2010 (soccer balls) might not be too hard to find–though they were different brands, and may be long discontinued. '00, '01, and '04 used dodgeballs/playground balls; equivalents might not be terribly difficult to locate though exact models might be. '03’s Sterilite containers may yet be available commercially.

We still have some sitting on our '09 robot. They don’t seem to be as durable as the official ones (many have cracked over the ~8 seasons they’ve been in storage) but they worked well enough for practice.

2011: 0.3mm thick vinyl, 7-8" dia. Exterior dimensions range between 25" (from side to side of the SQUARE) to 30" (from corner to corner of the TRIANGLE). Central opening between 9-1/2 inches (for the TRIANGLE) to 12 inches (for the CIRCLE and SQUARE) across. The TRIANGLES are colored red, the CIRCLES are white, and the SQUARES are blue. UBERTUBES (auton tubes) are constructed in the same manner as the CIRCLE, except they are colored yellow.
2010: Ball: Size 5 Soccer Ball (DTI Sports Inc HS300) (closest one) - Trident: (6’ long 1" PVC) (See image)
2009: I learned that the company that made the “balls” closed its doors mid-season (lol), and the trailers are custom-made. Balls: 9" dia; made of braided 1" wide strips of fabric-covered polymer. Trailer: (read pg. 85 of manual)
2008: 40" Exercise ball with nylon covering (similar to aerial assist ball).
2007: Page 88 on; Rack and tubes
2006: Small-ish purple ball? For some reason there’s no friggin documentation for this year. Need a veteran to help me out here.
2005: As mentioned above, PVC/metal tetras.
2004: 13-inch and 30-inch inflatable balls.
2003: Sterilite #1730 18-gallon tote (pg3)
2002: Size 5 soccer balls.

TIL the basics of these games  Makes me appreciate the availability of AndyMark and the current FIRST system.

From reading old threads, they were Poof Balls. These are all I can find now, but they look about right.

2006: The Poof ball. Want some fun? https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41367&highlight=poof; https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41366&highlight=poof

Wasn’t purple. Red/Blue were used on Einstein; most other events used whatever happened to be in the bag, which tended to be X/black.

Yeah, it’s nice having AM source these. The problem is, they STILL run out of stock quickly!

The Wayback Machine is your friend when it comes to finding lost FIRST stuff.

I have an Orbit ball 1511 made in my lamp in my bedroom(can’t go wrong with red and black colors!). Lunacy was a dumb game but the orbit balls were very cool.

I still got a case of the Poof balls unopened in the plastic wrap. Best game ever!:grinning:
