My team, 6566 out of Madison Heights MI, is looking to sell our Omio X8.
We are a small team and lack the mentor and student knowledge to use it to its potential. It is almost entirely unused after 2 seasons. We are hopeful that another local team can use it to its fullest.
As far as anyone’s gotten with it was manually cutting some soft foam, using the keyboard to guide the bit around.
We are thinking something smaller scale/desktop style or even a laser cutter will fit our needs better, so we’re hoping to sell this one and use the funds to purchase something along those lines.
We also have an enclosure that we modified to fit the machine, which we could part with as well.
I’d prefer to answer any inquiries through private messaging.
Are you sure you wouldn’t rather ask a local team to help teach you to use it? I’ve helped local teams get up and running within a few hours and they are now cutting parts on their own.
These routers can be a huge asset and are relatively easy to get started with. I think you may want to reconsider, unless the funds are more critical at the moment.
FWIW I’m not an engineer and have one at home and cut a bunch of parts for my team and others - if I can do it, I think anyone can.
We are in Macomb county Mi and would be willing to help with knowledge transfer for you to make use of the machinery. We are newish to it ourselves but can cut parts. Several Macomb teams were given Omios during covid and given a basic class at MCC.
That is a nice setup you have and it would be a shame to lose it. The enclosure is awesome compared to what we have.
Edit: going to Madison Heights is a good excuse to go to Microcenter anyways at the same time.
I was going to say basically the same thing. I also have one at home and when our team got one of their own it was game changing. Polycarb is super easy to cut with it and once a few students know the workflow it can turn CAD into parts in minutes.
