How do I report an issue like that? I’d be more than willing to fill something out
The big issue here is that all of the Optifuse breakers are defective, in that they do not have the ruggedness and reliability needed for FRC.
Thank you so much for posting this we are just about to replace our old breaker with the optifuse breaker.
I agree with this, I won’t ever run an optifuse on one of our competiton robots and I highly recommend other teams avoid them as well.
What other breakers would you guys recommend?
I had no idea it was a thing until a local team did an electrical presentation and warned us about them. Of course ALL of our robots had them. (Usually using the free one in the kit of pars)
They are now no longer allowed in the lab. We got yet another one in the tote last week and it went straight into the magic cylinder.
(good reminder to buy a couple of spares for this season actually)
We like this Eaton Bussmann model, especially with the bright yellow tab to turn it on. It is available at AndyMark, but if you don’t have to use a PO you can get it cheaper at Powerwerx just make sure to pick the correct 120 Amp model.
(Affiliate link alert for transparency)
Just know the yellow ones use a metric stud, so you need a M6 (I believe) locknut, not the 1/4-28 used on the black versions.
C. the 1 main 120-Amp (120A) surface mount circuit breaker
(Cooper Bussman P/N CB185-120, CB185F-120, CB285-120 CB285F-120, CB285120F
or Optifuse P/N 153120, 253120)
Just delete the last item on that list and you’ll be good.
The others are all pretty similar, although I also like the “285” (yellow) parts, if you are buying something new anyway.
My best guess would be to email the KoP team at frcparts [a] firstinspires.org, but they’re probably swamped with teams with missing stuff in their kits right now.
Since we’re chatting main breakers anyway,
- All main breakers should be one of the Copper Bussman linked above
- all main breakers should have one of these bad boys FRC Main Breaker Shroud by cadandcookies | Download free STL model | Printables.com
- throw any star washers away. Use at least a lock nut, if not a nord lock and lock nut (just found out bolt depot sells 1/4" nord locks)
I feel like this is an improvement.
ive seen many of these weird issues with the optifuse but man. nothing can top the clickyness
Introducing the Nifty Bot Breaker Shroud! These are also a good option for breaker covers that I’ve seen.
Yup, saw that in our rookie sister school’s tote. One more thing for the list
