I have to imagine and how FIRST IS holding spots. I hope FIRST had the foresight that the “New Rule” would cause regional registration chaos. My how is for the rookie teams.
I agree with your theory, I know of teams which have “overbooked” themselves to give themselves more time to evaluate how to address the “New Rule” and other teams which were getting nervous on how fast the regionals filled.
As time passes we should see some movement, I hope.
I have been told (by two people who should know) that the LA regional has room for 60 teams. Considering that the number of teams allowed to register is only 45, I beleive that there are spots being help open. Whether this is happening at all the regionals, I don’t know.
There are no free spots left at any regional as of 3:15 EDT.
At the new hampshire team forum, FIRST stated that they would probably run registration in a way that we are seeing. In my opinion, they are probably opening up a certain number to first-come-first-serve at each regional, and reserving a certain number for teams that meet certain criteria. I think they’re only reserving 5-10 at each regional though. I think everyone needs to get new regionals started for next year so we have enough!
Actually, I know for a fact that the LI Regional is holding spots. We said that the limit is 35 teams, but there really is 45 spots available (which is why we’re up to 42). It seems though, that the additional 10 spots are going to LI teams. When it was only 35 teams, there was 12 team from LI. We have about 40 teams on LI. The newest 7 to be added from the waiting list are all from LI. I don’t know what the criteria is, but that’s what’s happening at the LI Regional.
As of this posting (my PC clock is wrong, so I have no idea what time it really is. … ), there are now 4 available slots at the Lone Star regional.
I’m not sure if that’s because teams pulled out or if it’s because they’ve made more spots available, though. Being in NY, I haven’t been paying too much attention to what goes on in TX.
