After the 2020 season was officially suspended, I tried out the simulator made by FTC team #11115, and I was surprised by how great it is. Thanks 11115 for this great resource!
I feel that with a few feature additions, this simulator probably could allow realistic online “regionals”. Here are the neccessary features:
-trench shot and target zone shot( currently defense could totally shut down robots)
-make generator switch not as slippery to allow solo balance
-allow driver view to be rotatable or even autofollow robot
-open a programming API so that teams can write custom controls( i.e cheesy drive, tank drive, automatic aiming, trajectory following etc)
-Intake guard piece added to robot( currently when the intake roller hits walls, robot would flip )
-make the robot drivetrain less" drifty“, currently either traction is low or inertia is too much and controls are more sluggish than actual frc robots
What are your thoughts? This list does seem quite long, but I think with the wonderful programming abilities of the FRC community, if we work together probably we can train driveteams online and make up for the oppurtunities lost to the coronavirus
