Does anyone only go to the first week regional? It seems to me, that most of the people competing then also compete at a later regional.
I dont know. I think most people who compete in first week go to a later one. I think if you are going to only one its smarter to go to a week later on because they have everything set.
I agree. If Boilermaker was a first week regional, then 1766 would only go to a first week regional. We can’t afford to go to another. Last year we were late to apply for the Boilermaker and had to pay out of our pockets to go to Buckeye. If we get more funding, we would definitely go to multiple.
Yeah. We usually always do two and nationals. But we used to do Pittsburgh and Philly. Now we go for Philly and New Jersey. I am surpised that we are going two and nationals this year though because we got a new principal this year so we lost a lot of our funding.
I suspect that for some rookie teams, the local regional is the only viable option. If it happens to occur in Week 1, then that’s when they compete. Getting the funding and logistics for traveling might not be practical for these teams in their first year.
I actually prefer local regionals to the long distance traveling ones. I would love to travel but im on a budget in my house. And plus, it gives me more of a chance to meet new people around here to be friends with.
Not just rookies. Looking at FIRST’s site, 964 has only been to two regionals once (Pittsburgh, 2003) and to Nationals twice (02, 04). It’s a pain to get funding, support, and transportation for multiple regionals for some teams.
According to the spreadsheet in this post: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63045&highlight=regional+team+spreadsheet
There are about 250 teams who attended week 1 regionals. For nearly half of them, it will be the only regional they attend. 18 of those going to one regional are also signed up for Atlanta (which could increase due to regional wins).
we always go to at least 2 regionals and then usually Atl. NJ is usually a practice run to see if all systems are go. We then come back to the next regional stronger than before. I’m really excited because at NJ we were finalists so who knows what could happen in Chesapeake:rolleyes:
Yeah. We usually use our first reginal just as practice. And we all saw how that worked out for us. We are hoping to get even further in Philadelphia.
