9072 Tigerbots (www.9072.team) based out of Chesapeake Science Point Middle/High School would like to announce the opening of an open practice facility in Hanover, MD! This facility has been graciously provided to us by the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation. The field perimeter is courtesy of FRC 1111 and the NASA Robotics Alliance. For those of you in CHS this is the same field that was set up by the USRA in Columbia, MD.
The field will be open to all teams who are able to come to the space during the 2024 season (currently finalizing dates with the school). For the 2024 season we will ask teams who come to the space to donate built elements if possible and to share what they bring with other teams (we will be building what we can as well).
If your team is interested please have a MENTOR reach out to me on here or email [email protected]. And for those that will be visiting the space we will publish rules and regulations once we have them finalized.
Almost done! The field is largely done and we have some of previous years game elements that will be removed.
Still in progress, but we are aiming to have the space set up before the end of the year. If anyone has any suggestions about such a space please let us know.
We are looking forward to hosting as many teams as possible!
Thank you to Teams 888, 1111, 1727, 2199, 2377 and Capitol Technology University for helping get the space set up.

To all who have helped us get to this point, thank you! From the awesome CHS community, to the mentors, sponsors, parents, fellow teams, and students who have spent countless hours to work with us in and out of competition… this is HUGE. The last year has been absolutely incredible, and I thank everyone in FIRST for this incredible opportunity!
Looks awesome guys! We’ve got several similar spaces across MN, I’ve been to two of them with my team over the years. If you have questions or want to bounce ideas off someone, I’m certainly willing… and I’ll be in the area (Ellicott city) in a couple of weeks for the holidays!
One thing to think about is liability. The fields we’ve gone to have required us to have a certificate of liability on file with them (it’s pretty standard for inter-school stuff, our school admin handled it for us without an issue), so that is something to think about.
With limited space, having a sign up system in place can be a good idea as well - our places separate Saturdays into morning and afternoon blocks to try to get as many teams in as possible. Depending on the available space, having a limit on the number of team members who can come might be important as well, even if it’s not something you strictly enforce.
Edit: oops, meant to reply to @mpatel19, must have clicked the wrong thing
Thanks for the info! We will be sure to check with our admin about liability. And we plan on having sign ups as well to help keep the team experience as smooth as possible. Splitting up the day also sounds like a good plan.
If you have time on your vacation we would love for you to check out the space and pick your brain! (will DM you to arrange that)
Awesome setup. One concerning thing is the ceiling height. If there is a shooting game that requires an arch trajectory, you might get some damaged tiles. I.e. 2022 we barely managed with 14ft .
As a student from a Chesapeake team, I would like to both thank and congratulate everyone that made this a reality! This will be a very helpful resource to teams during the 2024 season (and beyond).
Last Thursday the Tigerbots finished the general assembly of the new practice field! Big thanks to Liam (Cap Tech) and Mike/Sara (C Company) for all of the help with assembly.
We’d like to invite you all to come see the new space on Sunday Dec 17th between 10-2pm if you are available! This will also give you all a chance to nitpick our work and give us some pointers on how the field could best be used by your teams. Please forward this along, and also let us know contact info for any other teams nearby who would want to use the field this coming year so we can spread the word! Feel free to bring a few students if you’d like, but please limit to 2-4 students per team for the time being.
Mentors must be present with their students for liability reasons.
Thank you,
Team 9072 TigerBots
