Origen of cheif delphi's name

I’m curious as to why the forms are named the way they are. Does anybody know why it is what it is?

Many years ago (pre 2010) there was a team named Chief Delphi. Team 47 started these forums.

Because this forum was started and sponsored by Team 47. They took their name from the school mascot, the Chiefs, and from their sponsor, Delphi.

Even though 47 and 65 have merged into Team 51, Wings of Fire (following the merger of their two high schools), the website remains the same name because of the reputation it has garnered over the years.

These forums’ name originates from the former Team 47’s name: Chief Delphi.
Their school’s mascot was the Chiefs, and one of their main sponsors was Delphi. These forums are operated by Brandon Martus, who is the son of the head mentor of the former Team 47.
Last year, Team 47 and Team 65 merged high schools and became what is now known as team 51. The name of these forums, however will forever be known as Chief Delphi due to the popularity of the forums in the FIRST community.

EDIT: Beaten :stuck_out_tongue: The Chief Delphi webhug is also still hosted at Championships every year, even though the people running it are now dressed in purple Wings of Fire shirts

Chief - most likely has everything to do with 47’s original high school, Pontiac (Indian chief) Central High School.

Delphi - 47’s (and 45’s, and 48’s, and…) long time primary sponsor

Pontiac Central (47) and Pontiac Northern (65) High Schools merged this past year. The two teams were merged to form the new Team 51, Wings of Fire.

I’m sure Joe Johnson or Mike Martus can provide a much more interesting history than that.

Ok, thanks! You’ve been a big help!

then who was the original 51? likely a defunct team…

and i get the idea they opted not to ditto Goodrich high school (494 and 70)

They were granted a previously unused number, because the team was technically a veteran, but using one of the two numbers would be unfair to the other joining team. They were also allowed to keep all of both of the previous teams’ awards (including 47’s Championship Chairman’s Award).

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away called FIRST, a village just outside of Michigan was facing problems. The village had an excess of water flowing in as a result of a nearby river. However, they did not know what to do with it all. They felt wrong about keeping it all to themselves, and the local animals could not drink it all themselves.

Many members of the village tried to come up with answers, but none could work. Besides, many members of the team were working hard on other projects for the village, such as the many contests the land of FIRST gave to all villages. What were they to do?

Then, one day, a young woman proposed an idea. Instead of finding ways to simply take the water away, they should spread the water to all nearby villages. They could create vast networks of pipes and threads for all to share the water. The village rejoiced! They quickly made her chief, and her new name became Delphi, after the grand oracle of Ancient Greece.

So, this day, chiefdelphi.com was made to honor her vision and ideas of spreading resources. What was water to them is knowledge for us.
