OT: CNN Special

CNN will run a one hour special on the Anderson Cooper 360 Degrees show entitled “Ambush at the River of Secrets”. This is a memorial to Jonathan Bowling, Karl Linn, Chris Weaver and Jesse Strong of the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Charlie Company who were lost 1/26/2005 in Iraq. Karl was co-founder of Team 975 (Midlothian, VA) and also participated in FIRST while attending engineering school at VCU.

According to the producer, Amanda Townsend, it will probably air on Tuesday, January 2nd. (It may show again, possibly on 1/26.)

I’m hoping that OT stands for “On Topic”, as I couldn’t imagine any place being more apt for this type of thread.

I can’t imagine what you and your family are feeling around this time of the year, but I extend my condolences.

God bless
-Mike

God bless Karl and your family. I never knew Karl but to have started a FIRST team and then serve his country he must have been a great man. God bless him and the family.

Thanks, folks. This was just announced on the CNN site:

“A tragic milestone for U.S. troops in Iraq: more than 3,000 dead. A very special “AC 360°” honors the fallen, “Ambush at the River of Secrets,” tonight at 10 ET.”

That was an amazing, touching, and emotional tribute to your son and the three other young men who lost their lives with him.

My heart goes out to your family and to the families of all those who have served our country and given it the greatest sacrifice. Thank you.

Here’s a pic of our first year robot and Karl at the driver’s station, wearing his Jeep cap. Yes, the robot is made from plywood. We joked about using an advanced fiber-matrix material, so Karl found a piece of cedar siding and painted a logo that said “Featuring - the W-Fiber”
