output from a cell phone?

Does anyone know if its possible to get output from a cell phone? For example i want to be able to dial a number from any cell phone and then reach a modified cell phone. My goal is to have an rc car controlled by cell phone and i want to know if there is a way to tie a cell phone into the existing rc controller.

I would think you would be able to get the ringer output but thats the only one I know of.

My cell phone has an IR port on it, I use it to sync with my computer. It can both send and recive data, but what you could do with that I don’t know.

The models are the Nokia 3360 and the Nokia 6310i.

Well, think about it. How does the cellphone do what it does. It converts sounds into a electrical frequency(ever seen an ociliscope?), broadcasts that via the radio to a signal amplifier, and then that boosted signal is rebroadcast out via the radio, all of the rest of the cell phones in the area are hit with this signal, but only the reciving cell listens in. The circuitry converts the radio frequency back into an electrical frequency, which is then sent to a magnetic piston that pulls and flexes a special surface. which resonates to make sound

If you removed the speaker, and completed the circuit to something else, it would get a variable frequency depending on the sound produced, ie touch-tone phones, or dial-up internet. Each of the different keys makes a different noise when you touch it. this corelates to a different electronic frequency for each key. If you isolated these frequencys, you could use the numpad on your cell phone to steer, and use functions. Likewise, you could have the microphone on the reciving cell phone replaced with something else to get feedback, remove the speaker on the controling cell phone, or use a headphone jack(dosnt hurt the cell any), and hook it up to a computer.

Basically, this all comes down to changing media. Converting data to frequency, to radio, back to frequency, to data out. Of course, the whole idea violates warranty and will rack up a really big bill. But, with global communications, and with the advent of picture phones, you could have a robot that you could controll from anywhere on the earth. Oh ho ho…(devilish laugh)…A very cool idea, i might have to make my own version if i ever get two free cell phones.

Of course you can get all kinds of signals from a cell phone. If the phone is so equiped it can act as a dialup for a modem. If you use the earphone output to feed a DTMF decoder then you can send tones from the keypad on one phone to be received by a second phone, decoded by a PLL tone decoder and turned into data or control signal. The downside is needing two phones, one with an audio output. There are kits in MCM and other places that are used for just such control. The other problem is how to get the receiving phone to auto answer so that it can pass the DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) to the device you want to control. Ham Radio Operators have been using tones for control for many years to control repeaters and remote transmitters. I have used a telephone system and DTMF signaling to control video switching and transmitter on/off from a remote location.

The motrola startac line of phones (digital ones anyway that I know of) will actually accept AT commands like a normal serial modem will, if you search a bit on google their not that hard to find, get a serial sync cable and go to town.
