2052 (KnightKrawler) Articles of Incorporation

2052’s Articles of Incorporation, which were approved by the state of Minnesota.

These are team 2052’s (KnightKrawler) Articles of Incorporation, as approved by the state of Minnesota. I removed names and addresses of course for privacy.

We highly encourage people to ask questions about the process. If there is one lesson I would pass on to other teams, it would be this: Incorporating is not too difficult. You too can incorporate your team.

Hopefully other teams can use this as a template for there own articles.

No substantial part of the activities of the corporation shall constitute the carrying on of propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, or any initiative or referendum before the public,

Does that limit your team’s ability to talk to politicians about more STEM funding, FIRST, etc. or am I reading it wrong? Mainly talking about the influencing legislation part.

No, because working with local politicians wouldn’t be a substantial part of our activities.

I’m sure that if we devoted a significant amount of energy to such activities someone could call us out on it, but in the incredibly improbably chance that we found ourselves in a legal battle, I have a feeling that the fact that our main purpose (and main focus of our energies) is to build a robot for FIRST would force a ruling in our favor.

Plus, compare any time a team spends talking to local politicians to the amount of time spent working on the robot during build season, and I doubt anyone would label the former “substantial!”

Oh, so the idea there being, you aren’t a lobbyist organization applying for nonprofit status.

Exactly.

Perhaps not local politicians, but I know of a couple of marketing and outreach managers who might disagree with you on some of those points…

What matters is if it’s legally considered as such, not whether or not a team member feels they do a lot of work or not.

im proud to be on team 2052!!!1 XD
