Unofficial FRC Team Canvas 2016, v1
by: GeeTwo

Based on inputs from several on Chief Delphi. The goal of this version is to get some data points on how long it takes to complete the survey in paper form.

An unofficial canvas of FRC teams, to be administered at regionals and district events. The purpose is to get some statistics on team size and resources, along with an idea of what teams do with these resources in terms of build and competition. At this point, please just tell me how long it took to complete the survey; we will gather the actual survey data after stop build day. It took me 5 minutes, but then I already knew the questions, so that’s probably not a fair test. I’m hoping this will take no more than 10 minutes for most teams. If it takes much more than 10 minutes, or you can’t complete the questionnaire, please let me know why through a post on the poll thread, or a PM. V1.1 has more tools included, and has a cleaner form for the “number of sponsors” question and a slight rewrite of the “parent organization” question. V1.2 is minor changes, mostly some of the wording to get more consistent answers.

As a mentor it took me about 5 min. Are you thinking students or mentors will be filling this out? Some students may know all the answers and some will not. For instance I wouldn’t expect our PR students to know all the tools but they better know the sponsor info. Most students will not know total hours worked by the team i would guess.
P.S. i am willing to pass them out at the Duluth MN regional’s i plan on volunteering there again and at the North Star in Minneapolis where we are competing. May also be able to send a student over to do the 10,000 lakes
thanks for doing this should be interesting info.

I was figuring it would be a leadership member or mentor of the team, someone who would list him/herself among the “all in” category. These individuals should know how much the team meets, and have a good clue as to the tools and techniques available. I will probably restructure the sponsor questions a bit, perhaps something like how many sponsors do you have who contribute at certain predefined values (to include labor and supplies). My purpose is to try to figure out how much support each team gets in a way that a regular member who is not the team treasurer is likely to be able to answer.

Thanks for the offer to do the poll - I figure to start recruiting in earnest for this after Christmas, when the CD traffic picks up in preparation for kickoff.
