Passing initiation line

In the rules, 7.2.1, it says you can’t cross your alliance sector boundaries. However, to get points in AUTO, you must pass the initiation line. Isn’t this in violation of your alliance sectors borders?

The initiation line is on the far side of the field where you score. Your alliance’s sector is on the close side of the field.

I’m confused/annoyed by rule 7.2.1. The rule title (“During AUTO, no defense”) doesn’t seem to match the description (no entering your alliance’s sector). Defense appears to be legal in auto and potentially a worthwhile strategy.

I agree, it’s quite odd

G3. During AUTO, no defense. During AUTO, no part of a ROBOT’s BUMPERS may break the plane of the opponent’s SECTOR (see Figure 3-3.)

G3 says you cannot enter your opponent’s sector which seems to imply you cannot get close to your target zone (where you are supposed to score). Seems like a typo to me and doesn’t line up with the game animation…?

Additionally you start on the edge of the opponent’s sector according to 3.2

Hm. That isn’t what G3 looks like in the manual I’m looking at.

My team was just speaking about which side we start on. During auto, you start on the opposing side. Your robot is furthest away from your alliance station.

Hm… perhaps it was quietly fixed at some point. Mine def says opponent’s sector

Can someone redownload and check? It makes more sense to make it alliances sector

You have the updated version of the manual, @dardeshna has the old version. There was a quiet change to the encrypted manual made last night.
