Passing the main robot frame with the kicker.

Can our kicker leg pass the main frame of the robot while it is kicking??? Because it would be very hard to kick the ball in 3 inches. As we know we can let the kicker out for 2 seconds to kick.

I hate saying this to people, but please read the manual. The rules are very explicit. I will not quote them, because your team should get acquainted with the manual. Good Luck.

Specifically, <G30-A> in Section 7 is the rule you need to read.

For the sake of clear communication:

<G30> ROBOT Volume – During a MATCH, no part of the ROBOT shall extend outside the vertical projection of the FRAME PERIMETER, except as follows:
a. BALL Interaction Volume – Solely for the purposes of interacting with a BALL, MECHANISMS that are below the BUMPER may extend up to the BUMPER PERIMETER, for a period not exceeding two seconds. After returning inside the FRAMER PERIMETER, such MECHANISMS are not permitted to re-extend beyond the FRAME PERIMETER for at least two seconds…

Now, if your bumpers are built according to the rules, they will extend 3.25" beyond the Frame Perimeter. So, your kicker may extend beyond your frame by as much as 3.25", but for no more that 2 seconds.

Suppose your kicker fails and the “toe” stays out past 2 seconds, this results in a penalty situation. Now, suppose the failure is so major that the toe remains out the rest of the match. Will this scenario result in another penalty assessed for each additiponal two seconds interval that the “toe” remains beyond the frame?
If, so, we are designing a backup kicker retractor ASAP!

My advice…E-Stop. If they access a penalty every two seconds than it will help your alliance to stop the madness and hit the E-Stop. IMHO, YMMV
