Last Wednesday, on 3/17, our beloved mentor Paul Woodley passed away. We are incredibly saddened by his loss. Our full statement can be read here:
Sorry for you and your team’s loss. It is always sad to lose some one so dedicated and giving to our FRC Community.
Team 2539 and I did not know Mr. Woodley nor his team, but we wish the best for Woodley’s family, friends, and team members. It’s always depressing to see anyone in the FIRST community leave us.
Mr. Woodley sounds like an amazing person. Treasure the time you had with him.
FRC Team 1501 T.H.R.U.S.T. send their condolences to FRC Team 4311 on their loss of a great mentor and friend.
Rest in Peace Mr. Woodley, you will be missed.
I don’t think anyone can doubt what Paul has done with the Lynn/Swampscott teams over the years. Ever since I started as a student…always recognized Paul from a distance, but after I started working with him over the last few years Paul’s presence really was something special. He was the really the embodiment of what FIRST mentorship was. His classic line, “I’m just trying to help”, well it’s probably going to stick with me for life.
So many experiences with him over the years to count…from the first time I saw him when he won the Boston WFFA in 2012…to bugging him like 3 times to move his van a few years ago when he was blocking prime spots during load in! Looking back he was so laser focused trying to get the students situated that you couldn’t blame him. It was his nature.
Mr. Woodley was a one of a kind person and everyone who worked with him knew that. Really put his student’s needs first and foremost. Going to miss him around the 4311 shop and competition.
Thank you Paul, you helped me be a better mentor!

Please pass along my condolences and that of Team #111 WildStang. This great organization is successful due to the many dedicated mentors who work with local teams. I am sure he will be missed.
