Sorry if I’m forgetting anyone, it was such a great experience to meet all of you (some for the first time face to face)
I don’t think I could list the people I met without unintentionally missing more than half of them. I’d just like to thank those who came up & said hi and chatted for a while. It was really nice meeting all of you, and I hope to see you all again at future competitions.
My list is really long as well. At least thirty people came and looked for me. Thanks to you all, I was very glad to meet you and check out your robots. It’s amazing how you can just sit down in the stands to watch divisional finals and find yourself discussing a match with Andy Baker and John V., or on a long walk back to the pits say hi to Dave Verbruge or Dave Lavery. In a way, it would almost be nice for nationals to be one day longer, then I think about all the lost sleep and the pain in my feet and say thanks for just the three days.
I met Woodie Flowers wife and she took a picture with the people in the Halll of Fame booth and Dave Lavery did the same thing.
Dean singed my newspaper and T-shirt and Woodie singed my T-shirt as well.
Yes, I met Dean, Woodie, and Dave, and they signed my shirt, but they don’t compare to all the other people I met. I met people from all over the world: teams and volunteers coming together to have fun, compete and help. I was an experience I will never forget.
I’m not sure how much of the weekend after the hypnotist show she remembers at all!
I got to meet Cheryl of Beach Cities Robotics (Team 294) as well as Wendy of Homer (Team 22), both of whom were gracious to spend time with me discussing Chairman’s Award submissions.
And I had a blast going through the entire pit area, distributing the “All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned from FIRST” essay to each team. I met a LOT of great students and mentors there!
I remember everything now and I feel great!!! Because of the hypnotist I feel energized and don’t need to recover. Bring on the next nationals. Thanks to all for taking care of me at the social.
I met Woodie. It was the most amazing experience of my life. I saw him in the airport Sunday morning and I told my friend to watch my stuff because we were in the security line. Now, we must remember that I only had about four and a half hours of sleep and I was in bright pink pajama pants that said Hello, My Name Is High Maintenance PLUS a Moe shirt that was given to me and my black sweater that had cat ears on the hood. I was only wearing it with the hood, letting the rest flap behind me. I ran over to Woodie in my large platform shoes and stopped dead in front of him and his wife. He looked at me and said hello and I said, hi. Can I give you a hug? So he let me give him a hug and he hugged me back and I said thank you while I was hugging him and he said you’re welcome. We broke off and I ran back to my team and started to cry. I was so happy to have met him. The man has changed my life… all of our lives. I still cry when I go into detail every time I tell the story.
I don’t wanna list the people i met because i know i’ll forget a bunch of you, but i did want to say thanks to the few of you that seeked me out. it was strange to have people know my name without ever knowing theirs. Also wanted to say how surprised i was that i impacted people with the whole FIRST Fraternity thing. Short apology to those of you that I didn’t get around to shaking hands with, that’ll just have to wait for off-season or next year. And everything starts with…PARC.
I was completely busy running the scoring table on the Curie Division, so I didn’t have much time to and talk to people. When I went to the webhug I got lost for the longest time, and made it there the last minute when Mike Martus started announcing the stats and people who won shirts. I had to run out of there as soon as my lunch break was over, so I couldn’t talk to anyone at the webhug.
I remembered Gary Dillard and John Boucher came up to me and said hi, and I felt bad I didn’t have time to have a good chat with them. Then I remember at the Wrap party I walked by the Cheesy poofs, one of their team member wanted to talk to me, but I had to run to meet some friends. Little things like that just make me feel terrible.
And for those of you who were at Atlanta, please forgive me for not being as friendly as I should’ve been. I was nice seeing everyone there. Lots of real faces behind the computer screen name.
Worst thing was, when I left the webhug I saw Libby Ritchie, the 1 person I want to meet the most at Championship event, coming up the elevator and I didn’t even have time to chat. Bah! I will just have to go to IRI now.
I met Ryan from 234. Actually I saw him walking around like 6 times before I had the chance to talk to him on Saturday.
Other than that I really didn’t meet anybody from CD… I literally forgot about JVN, which makes me kind of upset…
And I saw a lot of team 45 but I don’t know what Andy Baker looks like, so meh…
Oh, and I saw Dave again and talked to him for a minute. Which is always good. Because it’s Dave Lavery.
