The Poway High School Engineering Academy and Pathway is recognized as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
2020-2021 Nationally Recognized PLTW Distinguished School
PLTW Distinguished School: High School: We received notice that we are a Nationally Recognized 2020-2021 PLTW Distinguished School in the High School Division. We have earned this honor since 2018-2019 for 3 years consecutively. This is a huge honor determined by 2019-20 PLTW students end of the year assessment scores and program requirements. There must be at least three PLTW engineering courses offered at the school and at least 33% of students must complete two or more PLTW engineering courses in the program. Students take a nationally recognized engineering end of the year assessment. Prior to COVID, over 70% of PLTW students at a high school must achieve a stanine score of 4 (proficient) or higher on the end of the year assessment, which continues to be maintained. Assessments are national engineering tests (like an AP test) administered through a secure online portal for Introduction to Engineering and Design (IED), Principles of Engineering (POE), Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA), and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM). Students that earn a stanine score of a 6 or higher will receive university credit from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
In 2015, the inaugural year of the Engineering Academy & Pathway, we received the honor of being a PLTW Certified Engineering Program; one of 13 in the state of California. Since 2017- 18, PLTW started recognizing school districts, high schools, middle schools, and elementary programs as distinguished schools. The PHS Engineering Academy has received this honor three years in a row during the 2018-19, 2019-20, and now 2020-21 school years. We are the only school High School in Poway Unified School District (PUSD) to receive this honor.
The Poway High School Engineering Academy is composed of fourteen choices.
