Well, I decided to upload a picture after all… So I picked the one that’s most misleading as to robot function. Here’s our beast all harnessed up in our brand new crate.
I’ll be lurking this thread, so go ahead and ask questions… No promises on answering them!
You might want to armor those cameras. There are going to be a lot of arm-flailing robots in this year’s game…
I would have to guess that this is an arm/elevator design where the manipulator is raised up and down by the actuators on the back. I’m guessing that the arm can lean forward to allow for a “parking space” on the back of the robot. I’m also willing to bet that the ramps were removed to make weight
As to how the manipulator works I honestly have no idea…
GL at SVR and Davis! Looks like another slick machine from 114!
Close, but not right at all. The manipulator is raised by a mechanism that isn’t visible. The arm doesn’t lean… at least not in the sense that you think. And there were never ramps… we make weight by about 10 pounds.
Edit: Also, the armor for the cameras isn’t installed in that picture, but will be present on the final bot.
Thanks! It’s our lead machinist’s method of securing all our long stock that we bring. He cuts out the bottom of an OSH bucket, and screws it to the wall in the crate.
(no one has guessed how the arm works… even though it has been mentioned elsewhere on CD…)
[edit: this is a view from the back of the bot. have fun ;)]
When i was a kid… My friend Tigger always said… TTFN Ta Ta For Now… I guess you just have to let them go, but I never want to let our robot get on that UPS truck seeing as how last year the truck that ours was in rolled over, and all the electrical was screwed up, case was messed up, and robot was a little bent out of shape, but with a little hand bending and some C-Clamps it was fighting fit for our matches. Good luck with your robot, and I cant wait to see the real beast unleashed. I wish you and your team the best of luck at regionals.
I figured I’d post here after we thought up a name for the bot, so here goes:
Our bot for 07 has been named FloJo, after a former mentor who spent 10 years teaching us to build the robot ourself. The team would not be where it is today without him. FloJo did amazingly well at SVR, and looks forward to playing with it’s robot friends at Davis. See you all there!
