This is our drivetrain for 2007. All we have now is the electronics and the whole rest of the robot HAHA!
Not planning on climbing ramps?
Very robust drivetrain. 6 wheel Colsons with AndyMark servo shifters. I especially like the way that the wheels are wheel protected side plates with braces. I like it!
Edit: and generous ground clearance, too!
Thanks Gabe. And we can definitely climb a ramp. We have about 1.25" clearance. Especially with our LOW gear we can crawl up a ramp.
Climbing ramps seems liek one of the strengths of this robot thus far. Six wheel drive is an oustanding option for many robots this year, as the end game ramp scramble will be important and short. This robot, will almost never bottom out, and shouldnt have too much problems running all over the place.
Yeah as low as it is it won’t have any problems ramping and it should be pretty quick too. We don’t know yet if we will be able to put a ramp on or not but there is definitely going to be an arm on the front of it. Right now it’s looking more like we’re just gonna be a scoring and defense machine!
If you’re looking to go defense, make sure that you consider the possibility that your going to get hit a lot on the sides. With you shafts running straight into your side, a bend could spell disaster. In our initial design, we made sure to include supports all the way across to absorb some impact. I’m no expert but if you have the weight use it.
We have already incorporated braces all the way across. Some of them aren’t on in the picture. Also we will definitely be using bumpers and the frame is pretty ridiculously overbuilt AKA it can’t bend.
Whats the weight on that?
my guess is around 65 lbs +/- 5
This reminds me way too much of our drive train this year. We’re also going with 6 colsons, middle ones lowered. However, we’re driving it with a motor on each planetary wheel and no transmission.

Sorry i didn’t mention this is my earlier post, but i was watching american robot and couldn’t help but notice some smilarities. Is this drivetrain at least partially inspired by the RhodeWarriors? it seems team 121 has a similar drivetrain, and has had that drivetrain since 2005. Interesting concept. Still looks good guys, and i’d love to see the arm when its done and you’re ready to show it to us.
Henry you were almost exactly right. Our less than scientific determined weight is 66lbs but that was using a fish scale. Also this drivetrain is partially inspired by team 121. I absolutely love the simplicity of their drivetrain and the strength however are team was tired of destroying kitbot frames so we built this behemoth.
