How long does your arm extend out? It looks huge!
Also, whats it (green) made of?
I love the color, it looks like you guys used wood for your arm, how much does it weigh?
With the wrist and claw the arm is less than 7 pounds.
Let me say this about our arm, it can go high enough that it badly damaged a ceiling fan (11-12 feet up, I might add–this robot will certainly be capable of scoring ringers on the high goal!) set to high speed. The arm was completely undamaged, but a team mentor spent several hours attempting to bend the brass fittings of his fan back into shape. By the way, the arm is constructed out of foam and fiberglass.
if it can go 12 feet up… doesnt that mean that it can go 12 feet out? im curious as to how this thing stays within the 72" bounding square…
Because of the placement of the arm on a fixed hinge point on the top back of the robot, extending it fully with the wrist straight out doesn’t put our total length above the limit. It stays within the operating parameters at all but the tallest height.
Actually, were it not for the fact that we were strapped for time when the camera was mounted and couldn’t find a good, stationary mounting position quickly, we would still fit into the 5’ weight class…
The arm alone is 5 feet long. Then we have a 2 foot claw on the end. Mount all that 4.5 feet off of the ground and you get 11.5 feet and a dead ceiling fan. Go hypotenuses!!!
Oopsie…The claw on the end is more like 1.5 feet, so that puts us at about 11 feet. Bleh, I’ll just measure the thing whenever I get around to it.
