My first 2008 Kit Part …
OK, I’m ready to get this party started!
Thanks Ed
is this one your version or the version Ben gave you?
Judging from the time this pic was posted versus the time Ben replied in the Hint thread, added to that the factor that this looks like the same version on www.firstcadlibrary.com, I’m assuming it is Ed’s. Don’t quote me on that.
It’s mine. I haven’t seen the official version from Ben yet.
So originally I thought gap between the plastic stands on the white block was for supporting 2 connectors, but now I’m told that the gap is for a keyway type feature that a connector would have to line it up correctly with the pins so you don’t put it on wrong.
So… my question to all the EE’s in the crowd, or the folks who like to tinker with circuit boards, what kind of connector could it be?
Looks like a Molex KK Friction Lock.
Oooh… Molex eh?
I’ll have to ask a few of the guys at work who worked there or worked with them through their professional careers about this discovery.
(I work at a place where we make cable assemblies, connectors, and antennas. We have a lot of good people from the cable & connector industry workin’ with us.)
Thanks for the info!
- I could be wrong, as I don’t have the board in front of me.
- I encourage you to pull up the data sheet online and confirm.
- KK Friction Locks are used EVERYWHERE.
I don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but I will be very impressed if that piece of information leads to anything. It tells you about as much as knowing what model of PIC is on the board.
Eh… Probably not. lol But It’s fun none-the-less to encourage my inquisitive nature over here, and who knows, I may get lucky with this new piece of info.
Oh wells. No harm in trying to decipher just another detail of the board I guess.
Bingo! http://delta.octopart.com/Molex__22-23-2061.pdf
This seems to match.
Good in high vibration applications
Seems to give a strong case for the “goes on the robot” argument.
But, now comes the big question.
What’s the mystery cable going to that this component is going to be used for?
Typically these type of connectors (from what I can gather) are used for power supplies on computers.
Possibly we can adapt these with the Ribbon cable provided via a crimping type mate housing: http://www.molex.com/catalog/pdf/MX2695.pdf
With this baby on the end of the wires: http://www.molex.com/pdm_docs/sd/008650804_sd.pdf
Can’t be that hard to do.
looks like you nailed what it is!! now what can it be used for is the question of the hour isn’t it?
If only I knew…I’d be able to share it with you all… too bad I don’t know
Any guesses??? I’m not electrical guy so I’m not so sure about it at all
Saaaaaaaayyyy…
Isn’t that the connector used on the F.L.U.X. Capacitor?
Sure is!!
The patent on that expired just 2 months ago.
Man these guys work fast:ahh:
lmao… I can see it now… BOOM:ahh:
does anyone know what this has been used for in the past?
This is the first year we’ve had this.
if you had a guess what do you think this IR Board Module could be used for?
I don’t know. I guess I’ll have to buy one and find out.
