Team 237 teaser pic of the new crate. A lot of work is going into it. We are shooting at 1/2 the weight of the last crate.
I am worried that you don’t have enough clamps in your shop
theres also a ton in the back too… wow :yikes:
there are so much clamps, are you gluing something?
We’re doing all we can to keep a tight lid on our robot design this year!
Actually we have a cabinet maker helping us out this year and he brought along his own clamps not knowing what we had at the school already. Most of the clamps on the crate are his.
The crate weighs MUCH less this year…even with those 45# weights on it!
The weights are holding the center of the plywood down as the glue dries. The sides are made of wood (poplar) lattice work with rigid foam insulation (1" pink) filling the spaces. Yes, our crate will have an R value of 4! The sides are then sheathed in 1/8" luann plywood. In this photo the plywood has just been glued to the sides.
You can see the bead of glue along the edge of the wood on top of the plywood on the left side of teh picture.
Eric
any reason your making your crate that thick? Granted you want to protect your baby, but i dont think theyre going to be air dropping them into the competitions.
There were a coouple of robots that didi get broken in shipping, dropped on their sides and that kind of unforttunate events… They’re thinking safety!!
so is anyone gonna make a tetrahedron crate that bounces around and then opens revealing their robot? hmmm sumone say sojourner?
Someone should totally do that. Have a tetrahedral crate where the sides have pneumatic latch/launcher thingies, and the crate has a plug for a tether on the side, and if you plug in a controller with your team number and hit the right buttons at the same time it will release the sides and make them all drop down at once. Bam. That would be awesome :ahh: !!!
Now all I need is to robb Nasa of some designes for those canvas ballons. At the competition! Team … wheres your robot? Good question. Hey dude where did you put our robot. Well times up competition starts. “click” Everyone looks to find what just went click. Boom super large tetra ballons bounce in the court. Deflate revealing atetra crate. Unfoalding oh my, there it is. Omg dude what is your sick problem. Muahahah. And they end up winning.
For a second I thought that you made it so light weight you thought it was going to fly off, and had to use all the clamps to keep it down.
And to think, we use plywood and straps to keep our 6-week pride and joy safe. I guess we’re just relying on the reliability of FedEx that was so portrayed in the movie Castaway. If it takes four years you better have Tom Hanks deliver it! Anyway, I’ll learn my lesson eventually, but only if you learn to use more clamps on that thing next time.
