I think the bearings on that table alone cost more than our robot. Wow, can’t wait to see what the rest of this drivetrain (and robot) looks like!

That’s about 120lbs worth of bearings, isn’t it?
All you need now is a robot controler, a battery, and some bumpers!
We actually have a local source (WJB Group) that gets precision imports for very cheap. A typical double sealed R8 costs less than 50 cents from them. All of the bearings in the picture above cost ~ $100.

So if it cost you 47 cents (you said a little less than fifty why not 47? ) and you spent about a hundred dollars, you’d have about 213 bearings.
They look like 3/8" bearing bore, 7/8" through bore, 1" flange bearings to me by the proportions on the picture, and they look like they’re made by General Bearing (GBC). According to GBC, the weight of each of those bearings is 0.035lb.
So… really the weight of all those bearings isn’t horrible… 7.455lb. However, that’s just bearings! Wow!
Well, i’m kind of guessing most of your axles are going to have two bearings on them (a few might have 3~4) so assuming you have 2.5bearings average per axle, you’ve got about 85 spinning axles on your robot. I had no idea crab drive had so many… can’t wait for pictures! :yikes:

I’m betting they’re not putting that many bearings on one robot; last year, 254 and 968 built a total of four robots (two for each team).
Then again, I wouldn’t put it past them…
Not sure how you guys are doing your crab, but I’m pretty sure we’re down to 3-4 bearings per module this year if I’m thinking right. Anyhoo, can’t wait to see it finished!

There’s actually over 400 bearings in that picture.
I know this is sort of irrelevant, but the other day I counted all the bearings we had on our robot, and it was about 40.
There must be something wrong with our bot, we only have 16 ball bearings (12 of which are in the wheels…)
We only have 6 bearings on our robot this year. Four for the drive (that’s right) and two for the arm.
Bronze bushings accomplish what we need for most joints for less money and less weight.
