This is our 2011 robot, DESdroid. We are very proud of the progress we have made this year managing to build two robots for the very first time.
-Mecanum drive with AM Toughbox Nanos direct driven to each wheel
-Roller claw with touch sensor that turns on a light when the tube is acquired
-Scores on top row in autonomous
-Weight: 105 lbs (our lightest robot yet)
-OI equipped with buttons for each peg height
Minibot and minibot deployer not included but will be featured in video to come soon featuring the minibot named A.W.E.S.O.M.-O and the practice robot named DESclone.
We are ell very excited for New York, Connecticut, and hopefully St. Louis.
Ever since 2008, I genuinely look forward to seeing the robot that 694 puts on the field each year. There is something familiar about their team, and the quality the build; an ‘it’ factor that I can’t quite describe. Thanks for the picture, looking forward to dueling in NYC.
That touch sensor idea is intriguing. If I happen to see you at some point this Competition season, I’ll have to check it out. Good luck at your regionals.
Its actually a long piece of fiberglass that is painted red. The problem in the photo isn’t the material of the arm. When this photo was taken we had a weaker hinge in our arm that was pending. We have replaced it with a more heavy duty one and it is now much better. Another problem in this photo was that one of the gas springs is actually stronger than the other because a 50 looks a lot like a 60. We have since fixed that problem and it is not warping sideways. At least through all that we learned that the fiberglass can take some force. We have been very pleased with the material.

I’ll try to get some photos of it and post them but its basically just a limit switch at the back of our claw and when its triggered it turns on a bright light on the top of our bot.

Thanks for the kind words. I get a similar feeling about your bots. Your designs are always very unique and awesome. Ever since we aligned in Trenton in 08 I’ve been watching cold fusion and I was very pleased to find out that you guys were attending NY this year.
If you do end up going to NYC our team among others would be happy to adopt you for the day. A few of us are going to Trenton on Saturday, I can’t wait to check out your bot up close.
