After seeing the AM14U2 Metal Cross Section views, started thinking what one would actually look like assembled for planning purposes. Using AM14U-28X28.stp file and currently released parts as a baseline, here’s a concept. It is not intended to represent a finished design or guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Interested to see what others have done with what we’ve been given.
Almost looks like the VEX 2014 DIAD http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexpro/structure/2014-drive-in-a-day.html
Looks MUCH easier to build on top of than the AM14U
Seconding this. This would have saved us so much effort with our roller arm mounting last year.
That’s about what I pictured. Remember it’s set up for toughbox minis by default (I think they confirmed this, someone tell me if I’m wrong).
The big thing will be the customizable frame perimeter and, presumably, cutting down the rails. I really hope they make a square configuration an out of the box option (unlike last year). Square and long are used more than long and wide.
That looks about right to me. If you assign 5052 as the frame material, what do you get for total weight (without wheels, motors and gearboxes)?
Has anyone used the H-drive version of the VEX 2014 DIAD?
And this AM chassis looks a lot easier to build on. Will be a lot better helping some of our rookie teams with building structures on top of this.
I have a 2014 DIAD H-Drive built in the basement of my house (for experimentation purposes), can’t speak too much about its usability for competition, but I could probably answer some questions.
Would you be willing to post the CAD files for this?
There are two things I would like to see different about this chassis: First would be to have the outside rails and the front and back rails much taller - so the tops end up being close to the level of the top of the bumpers (preferably flush if you build bumpers in the lowest permitted position)*, and second - make the outside plates more easily removable - or with removable sections for servicing wheels, pulleys, axles, etc.
*I understand the first item assumes bumper rules to be the same…but I’m sure Andymark knows what’s coming, and is sworn to secrecy.
